A TOTAL of 19.135 tourists visited the Maltese islands during August—an increase of 143.66 per cent. over the corresponding period last year and the highest figure recorded since the Tourist Board came into being ten years ago.
The August figures bring the number of tourists for the first eight months of this year to 89,496.
This is 16,000 more than the whole of 1966.
Today the tourist, or visiting businessman, has a choice of 80 hotels, mostly with air conditioning, private bathrooms, balconies and swimming pools. Tourist entertainment is equally made up of the musical flavours of many countries.
