Popular British TV star Keith Chegwin dropped an email to the Famagusta Gazette tonight after it reported an exclusive story about him filming for GMTV in Cyprus.
Chegwin, 51, who spent five days on the island, was full of praise for Cyprus.
“It was my first ever visit to Cyprus and I had a fantastic time filming. What a beautiful country and I met some really nice local people. It’s such a great safe place to holiday and if you’re lucky enough live there…”
Mr Chegwin also said that he hopes that his GMTV broadcasts from Cyprus would help promote the tourism product.
“I know that times are tough in the tourist industry as holiday makers are finding it expensive to travel abroad so hopefully the filming will promote Cyprus and we can see a boom in the local economy,” he said.
Several tourists told the Famagusta Gazette that they had enjoyed a fantastic time during Mr Chegwin’s stay, which included a “sing song on the beach.”
