TRAVEL GAZETTE – Turkish Airlines have opened its first direct flight linking Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo to Turkey’s biggest city Istanbul.
“Turkish Airline will do three flights a week until February 2016, then four flights a week from February 2016,” Madagascar’s Minister of Tourism, Transport and Meteorology, Ulrich Andriantiana, said.
The direct flight would promote tourism sector in Madagascar and support the economic development, the minister said.
Turkish Ambassador to Madagascar Volkan Turk Vural said that the flights would use an Airbus A330-300 and A340-300.
The transaction volume between the two countries was valued at over 100 million U.S dollars and the direct line would be beneficial for both countries, the ambassador said.
Diplomatic relations between Turkey and Madagascar are still underdeveloped.
Turkey opened its embassy in Madagascar in 2010, while Madagascar’s embassy in Rome is also accredited to Turkey.
