Myanmar tourism boom reaps 2.6 billion U.S. dollars

The country targeted a tourist arrival of 5 million tourists in 2015.

TRAVEL GAZETTE – Myanmar attracted over 2.6 billion U.S. dollar in foreign investment of hotels and tourist as of September this year, sources with the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has said .

During the same period, a total of 47 enterprises of joint-venture in hotel and tourist sector were granted.

Singapore topped in hotel investment in the country with 1.48 billion U.S.dollars.

Meanwhile, Myanmar had 1,225 licensed hotels with 47,911 rooms across the country and 1,847 travel operators, according to ministry statistics as of Aug. 31.

The number of foreign tourists visiting Myanmar as of November this year has overtaken that of the whole of 2014 when it welcomed 4.2 million.

The country targeted a tourist arrival of 5 million tourists in 2015.
