TRAVEL GAZETTE – Azerbaijan’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev has said there has been no increase in the number of tourists in the country last year.
He blamed the global economic crisis.
Garayev said that on Russian market the number of citizens traveling abroad decreased by 70 percent.
“In 2015, as many as 2.5 million tourists traveled to Azerbaijan, 700,000-800,000 of them came from Russia. If there is 70 percent decline on Russian market, how can the figure increase in Azerbaijan? It is impossible. However, it is gratifying that there are newcomers from new markets, especially from the Gulf, European and Latin American countries”, he said.
