Concerns in Venice over tourism

Advert Travel Gazette

TRAVEL GAZETTE – Venetians are campaigning to get Unesco to put the city on the danger list of world heritage sites for the first time, arguing that mass tourism is “jeopardising its future”.

According to the Daily Telegraph, they warn that the city risks becoming an “open-air museum” if residents continue to leave amid mounting concerns over the city, which was first given world heritage status in 1987.

Several high-profile heritage protection organisations in Italy say the situation has reached crisis point.
