Vietnam expects 4 million tourists in first half of 2016

TRAVEL GAZETTE – Vietnam is expected to welcome over 4 million person-times of foreign visitors in the first five months of 2016, up 20 percent year-on-year, according to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism.

According to a report on the VNAT’s website on Thursday, among the five-month figure, around 3.292 million tourists arrive in Vietnam by air. During the same period, some 66,011 travelled to the country by sea while the number of those coming to Vietnam by road stands at 647,929, said the VNAT.

In the January-May period, markets of Vietnamese tourism with sharp growth include China’s Hong Kong (up 139 percent year-on-year), China’s mainland (up 44.4 percent year-on-year) and Thailand (37.7 percent) among others.

In May alone, Vietnam is likely to receive some 757,244 person- times of international visitors, down 4.1 percent compared to April and up 30.2 percent year-on-year.

In May, some 221,800 person-times of Chinese mainland visitors are visiting Vietnam, bringing the five-month figure of Chinese mainland visitors to over 1.011 million person-times, ranking first among sources of tourists to Vietnam.
