Three male suspects were provisionally arrested after a flight to London landed Saturday evening at Cologne Bonn Airport for emergency due to “suspicious conversation” relating to terrorist, told the local police in a statement early Sunday.
According to the police, other passengers of the British low-cost airline easyJet flight EZY3246, from Slovenia’s Ljubljana to London, reported the crew about the suspected men whose chat involved “terrorist content,” and the flight captain had therefore decided to make an immediate diversion to Cologne around 6 p.m. Saturday.
The plane was then cleared in a secure area of Cologne Bonn Airport, with passengers being evacuated via emergency slides.
A backpack belonging to the suspects was inspected outside the aircraft with no explosives found however, said the police.
The suspects were interrogated by the criminal police, with testimony interviews with other passengers also being conducted.
The flight operation at Cologne Bonn Airport was severely impaired for several hours because of the unscheduled landing and the following police measures.
