An Indonesia’s upscale golf course in Batam island, which is close to Singapore, was scheduled to host a golf tournament for ladies from Malaysia and Singapore from July 15 to 16.
An official at Indonesia Tourism Ministry said that the golf event was expected to create a new attraction to lure more visitors from the two neighboring countries.
“We will create Batam as a golf heaven with serious tournament, featured with dinner and spa,” Tourism Minister Deputy for Domestic Destination Development Esthy Reko Astuti said last week.
Some 150 golfers are expected to take part in the golf tournament held in Batam’s Palm Springs Golf & Country Club, to bring their families as well to the event, she added.
According to an executive who oversees the golf course, some 80 golfers from the two countries have registered so far.
“Playing golf in Batam would give them new experience to play golf as the event would be featured with entertainment events,” Batam View Beach & Resorts General Manager Andy Fong said.
