(Travel Gazette) Oakland International Airport has kicked-off the first nonstop Bay Area service to Rome since 2001.

The flight between Rome’s Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport  and Oakland International Airport  will operate twice weekly on Norwegian Air’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

“We offer more European routes out of the Bay Area than any other airline and we are excited to be the only airline with nonstop service to Rome, one of the world’s greatest tourist destinations,” said Thomas Ramdahl, Norwegian’s Chief Commercial Officer.

Tyhe new Rome connection is the sixth nonstop route by Norwegian at OAK, Barcelona, Copenhagen, London-Gatwick, Oslo and Stockholm.
