German Transportation Minister Christian Schmidt Wednesday called digitalization “one key to clean air in the city” when detailing a related government funding program.
“That is why we fund digitalization of traffic systems besides alternative motors,” said the minister.
He announced Wednesday the funding guidelines for the program “clean air 2017-2020” reached between German federal and local governments last November.
The funding program which proposes a volume of one billion euros aims to improve the air quality in German cities.
Apart from digital traffic, other measures include electrifying urban traffic, building charging infrastructure, and refitting diesel buses for emission reduction, etc.
