A FAMOUS resort in the Philippines has been threatened with closure by the President.

According to the Jakarta Post: “Boracay is drowning in feces and may need to be shut down to protect the health of millions of visitors, President Rodrigo Duterte has warned.”

Duterte has instructed businesses on the island to clean up or he would ban tourism there, the paper reports. “I will close Boracay. Boracay is a cesspool,” he said.

Boracay is a small island in the Philippines located approximately 315 km south of Manila and 2 km off the northwest tip of Panay Island in Western Visayas region of the Philippines.

Even though the island and its beaches have received awards from numerous travel publications and agencies, President Duterte seemed unimpressed.
