2006 – (Travel Gazette Archives) Blackpool Pleasure Beach has been named the most popular tourist for the second year running, despite claims that the resort was ‘dead’ and suffering falling visitor numbers.

They reveal that while there was an overall 3 perecent decrease in visitors in 2005, the Pleasure Beach still drew around 6 million. In comparison, the Tate Modern, often hailed as one of the most successful tourist attractions, attracted only 3.9 visitors – less than of the number the Pleasure Beach achieved.
