Yangon shows tourist appeal

Myanmar’s former capital city of Yangon received more than 1 million tourists as of November from January 2018 with Chinese and Thai nationals making up the majority of the travellers.

According to the Yangon Region’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, among the foreign travellers, more than 120,000 came to Myanmar by air, while over 8,000 tourists visited the country aboard cruise ships.

The tourism sector saw more progress after the government granted visa-free entry to Myanmar for citizens of Japan and South Korea and visa-on-arrival to Chinese visitors starting from Oct. 1, U Naing Win , Director of the Yangon Region’s Directorate of Hotels and Tourism, was quoted as saying.
