Famagusta Gazette – Thousands of people have taken to the streets of the Sudanese capital Khartoum in the latest protest against President Almar Al Bashir.

A correspondent in the city said some of the demonstrators, chanting: ‘one army, one people’ were marching toward the presidential palace, whilst others were seen walking towards the army headquarters.

There is heavy security in the city, and according to reports, teargas has already been fired.

On Friday, the leader of the opposition called on the president to step down and form a 25-member council to govern Sudan. But, despite the demand, the president showed no sign of budging from power, instead asking for ‘dialogue’ with the youth of the country.
